The Hidden Swan: A Tale of an Ugly Duckling’s Journey to Learn his True Identity and Ways You can Too! by Reno-based author AnnaMarie Squailia is a lushly illustrated children’s book with extras that make it ideal for children’s summer reading. In addition to bringing new relevance to the classic Ugly Duckling story, it also offers something special for parents: a section with parent-child activities and story-based discussion questions.
AnnaMarie Squailia will present a reading and ideas for related activities from The Hidden Swan at a free Artown event:
What: Discover The Hidden Swan – an Artown event When: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Friday, July 3 Where: Miguel Ribera Park, 3905 Neil Rd., Reno“Incorporating reading into summer activities offers endless benefits to families and can help strengthen the lines of communication between parent and child,” said Squailia. “The Hidden Swan assists parents with suggested activities and questions to help them learn more about their children and support them with tools for success all year long,” she added.
The Hidden Swan is features beautiful color illustrations as well as several pages with black-and-white pictures that children can color themselves. The book stays with its readers, helping kids learn who they are in this complicated world.
Squailia points out that children need parental encouragement now more than ever. Recent studies show that children with low self-esteem often blame others for their own mistakes, deny responsibility and avoid taking on new challenges. The activities included in The Hidden Swan can help enhance a child’s self-confidence, which will assist in making better decisions and leading a healthier life.
Through the book’s activities, parents also can help their kids see that everyone goes through hardships, just as the story’s duckling. And like the duckling, each child can find the strength to overcome difficulties.
The book’s positive message does not stop on the last page. A portion of each copy sold will be donated to Dreams for Kids, an international youth empowerment and children’s rights organization. Successful Kids Publishing releases The Hidden Swan:
A tale of an ugly duckling’s journey to learn his true identity
Innovative new children’s book helps parents teach kids healthy self-image
Successful Kids Publishing has released The Hidden Swan: A Tale of an Ugly Duckling’s Journey to Learn his True Identity and Ways You can Too! by author and mother AnnaMarie Squailia. This children’s picture book is a rendition of the classic Ugly Duckling story, revised to increase its relevance to modern life.
The story is told in a positive voice to inspire young people and is followed by parent-child activities and discussion questions designed to enrich family interaction. The book also features beautiful color illustrations as well as several pages with black-and-white pictures that children can color themselves. The Hidden Swan stays with its readers, helping kids learn who they are in this complicated world.
“By asking questions, parents can learn about their children’s desires and fears,” says Squailia. “This will strengthen the lines of communication between parent and child and give parents the ability to be their children’s best cheerleaders.”
Children need that cheerleader now more than ever. Recent studies show that children with low self-esteem often blame others for their own mistakes, deny responsibility and avoid taking on new challenges. Childhood obesity has become rampant in part because incessant advertising makes bad choices such as eating junk food and playing video games instead of exercising seem attractive. The activities included in The Hidden Swan can help enhance a child’s self-confidence, which will help that child make better decisions and lead a healthier life.
Through the book’s activities, parents can also help their kids see that everyone goes through hardships, just as the story’s duckling. And like the duckling, each child can find the strength inside him or herself to overcome these hardships. The child isn’t a victim and shouldn’t feel ashamed.
The book’s positive message does not stop on the last page. A portion of each copy sold will be donated to Dreams for Kids, an international youth empowerment and children’s rights organization.
